Recycling
Recycling in the Township is single stream; all material can be mixed loose in your recycling bin. Recycle pick-up is collected on a weekly basis on your assigned recycling day. Recyclables should be placed curbside by 6:00AM the morning of your regular assigned recycling day. However, the township recommends placing your bins curbside after 6:30 PM the night prior to your
scheduled recycling day. Items should be placed in your Township issued recycling bin, recycle bin of your choice, or in paper bags or box. Bins must be no larger than 40 gallons and weigh no more than 30 lbs and properly marked "Recycling". There is no limit on the amount of material that may be put out for collection. DO NOT overfill bins. Lids must be closed to prevent waste from spilling/flying into streets. Plastic bags are not recyclable, therefore will not be collected and left curbside.
Township issued containers remain with the property in the event of change of ownership.
Holiday and Weather Emergency Schedule
Delayed recycling collection due to holidays, will resutt in the collection being made up on another date with a few exceptions. Please refer to the Trash & Recycling Calendar above for holiday make up dates. Recycling dumpsters are available to residents in Municipal rear parking lot to dispose of recyclables if needed.
Delayed recycling collection due to snow or weather emergency conditions preventing recycling collection service on the regularly scheduled day will result in the collections being made the following week.

Extra Information
Any glass, metals, juice boxes, or plastics should be rinsed thoroughly with plastic lids and neck bands removed before recycling. Paper clips, staples, metal fasteners, stamps, labels and address labels, cellophane, address windows, rubber bands, spiral bindings, plastic tabs do not need to be removed.

Commercial Recycling
Although the township does not collect commercial recycles, businesses are required to recycle. By both state and local law, all Upper Chichester Township businesses are required by Ordinance 494 to recycle and must arrange for their own recycling pickup. The list of materials required to be recycled may be
found above in the Residential Recycling Collection. Commercial landlords who provide waste pick-up for their tenants must also provide recycling pick-up.
Businesses are required to state annually how their recycling is collected. Businesses that do not recycle are subject to fines.

eWaste Collection (Electronics)
Electronics such as televisions, computers, cell phones, video game consoles, DVD players, etc., include toxic chemicals on their motherboards and pose a threat when sent to landfills. The Township will be sponsoring two eWaste Events through the year. These events are for residents of Upper Chichester Township to dispose of electronics in a safe manner. Please refer to the Trash & Recycling Calendar above for scheduled events or click here for additional information.
The Township does not collect TV's curbside. However, residents are permitted to dispose of 1 tv per vehicle at each event. Residents can also contact Best Buy or Staples for disposals.
Shredding Collection
The Township provides the opportunity for residents to safely discard old, unused documents in a safe manner at Township sponsored Shredding Events throughout the year. Please refer to the Trash & Recycling Calendar above for scheduled events or click here for additional information.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Upper Chichester Township is not permitted to collect hazardous waste. However, throughout the year, Delaware County organizes several Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events within the county with Upper Chichester being one site. These events allow residents an opportunity to rid of household hazardous waste at no charge. Residents must Pre-Register for events by calling the County at (610) 892-9627 or by visiting them on the web no more than 6 weeks of event at delcohhw.eventbrite.com. Leaf Collection
Starting mid to late October through early December leaves will be collected every week on your regular designated recycle day. Please refer to the Trash & Recycling Calendar above for start and end dates. Leaves must be placed in biodegradable bags and separated from your recyclables. Leaves placed in
plastic bags will not be collected and left curbside.
Residents must refrain from blowing leaves into the streets. This will minimize the buildup of leaves in the Township storm drains which can cause flooding and create an unsafe condition for the community.
Yard Waste Collection
Yardwaste is collected on your regular designated trash day throughout the year.
Branch/Twig Collection
Branches can be bundled and tied into 4’ sections or placed in container or paper biodegradable paper bags. This collection must be scheduled with the township by 12 noon the Friday prior to the scheduled pickup date. To schedule a pickup please complete the form by completing the Branch Collection Form. Note: deadline for scheduling is FRIDAY by 12 noon prior to the scheduled collection day.
Christmas Tree Collection
The Township will be pick up trees on your regular assigned recycle day the last week of December and the first two weeks in January. There is no need to call for this service. Please remember to remove all ornaments, lights, stands, garland and wires. Also, do not place in plastic bags when placing your tree curbside.
Fill out the form to arrange for bulk metal pickup. Please note the following:
- All items must be placed curbside Sunday night prior to scheduled pickup date
- Televisions are not collected by the township
- All refrigerators /freezers must have doors removed prior to placement at the curb
- All lawnmowers must be drained of fluids prior to placing at curb
- Propane tanks will not be collected
