Construction coming to the Bethel Road and Mill Road intersection

Posted on October 24, 2022

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has awarded a $2,625,735 contract to Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc. of Pilesgrove, NJ, for a project to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection of Bethel Road and Mill Road in Upper Chichester, Delaware County.

Under this safety improvement project, PennDOT will construct a single-lane roundabout to enhance traffic flow through the intersection. The project will also include relocating conflicting utilities; new drainage facilities; ADA compliant sidewalks and crosswalks; and full-depth reconstruction of the existing intersection. Bicycle ramps are proposed to allow cyclists to navigate the roundabout.

The project aims to reduce overall crashes at the intersection; reduce vehicle speeds; and improve bicycle and pedestrian mobility and safety near the intersection.

Due to the nature of work on this project, the intersection will be closed during construction. There will be a detour for traffic, pedestrians, and bicycles. Temporary signal/signs will be installed to direct traffic through the detour.

The work on the Bethel Road and Mill Road Roundabout project is expected to begin this fall and finish in spring 2024. The project is financed with 100% federal funds.
Thank you for your support of this important transportation improvement project in Delaware County. PennDOT is committed to improving highway safety to enhance mobility throughout communities in the state.
