I-95 Single, Double Lane Closures Scheduled Next Week for Construction in Delaware County

![]() ![]() Interstate 95 motorists will encounter single and double lane closures in both directions next week at several locations between the Delaware state line and the Route 291 East (Bartram Avenue/Cargo City) Interchange for various construction activities under a project to rehabilitate pavement and repair 15 structures on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley Park boroughs, Delaware County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced. The work schedule is: Monday, April 26, through Thursday, April 29, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and from 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM. A single lane closure will be in place on northbound and southbound I-95; Monday, April 26, through Thursday, April 29, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a double lane closure will be in place on northbound and southbound I-95; Friday, April 30, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, a single lane closure will be in place on northbound and southbound I-95; Friday, April 30, from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM the following morning, a double lane closure will be in place on northbound and southbound I-95; Saturday, May 1, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM, a single lane closure will be in place on northbound I-95; and Saturday, May 1, from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM the following morning, a double lane closure will be in place on northbound I-95. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent. Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signage and relevant training. Under this project, PennDOT’s contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing concrete pavement including 41 ramps; perform minor structural repairs to 15 of the 33 bridges located in the project limits; repair sections of median barrier; upgrade guide rail; install new pavement markings, delineators and rumble strips; repair and clean existing inlets and pipes; and replace damaged or missing traffic signs. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center just north of the Delaware state line also will be improved with concrete base repairs and new parking stripes, pavement markings and signs. PennDOT to Repair Potholes Next Week on More Than 50 State Highways in the Philadelphia Region
Motorists encouraged to call 1-800-FIX-ROAD or go online to report potholes. PennDOT maintenance and contractor crews will be working on more than 50 state highways next week to repair deteriorated pavement across the Philadelphia region. The roadways include: Interstate 95, Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Ridley, and Tinicum townships, City of Chester and more found here: Crews will restrict travel lanes on these state highways to patch areas of deteriorating pavement. Motorists are advised to be alert of this moving operation and to expect intermittent lane closures and possible slowdowns when driving near work crews. All activities are weather dependent. As of January 1, 2021, PennDOT has used more than 3,129 tons of asphalt to repair potholes across the five-county Philadelphia region.
