Last chance to think Fall Prevention for a safe holiday season! 

Did you know the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that every 20 minutes an older adult dies from a fall?  A fall can mean drastic changes to how we live.  Did you also know that fear of falling can lead to having a fall

The National Council on Aging notes that falling is not a part of normal aging.  You can prevent falls by doing the right exercises, making your home safer, getting regular health checkups and more.  Visit the National Council on Aging’s website at Falls Free CheckUp (ncoa.org) to identify your risks for falls. 

Be proactive and attend COSA’s upcoming in-person evidence-based fall prevention program Healthy Steps that uses proven approaches to help you prevent falls.  Due to high demand, COSA is offering these programs to PA residents age 60 and over in collaboration with Crozer Health’s Trauma Department and the PA Department of Aging.  Programs are free of charge, but space is limited.  Two upcoming program offerings are below:

Healthy Steps is a 2-session program offered in-person and includes a scheduled fall-risk assessment appointment.  Learn your risk and learn what you can do to prevent falls.

Location:  Redwood Community Playhouse in Upland Park

             280 6th Street (Taylor Way), Brookhaven, PA 19015

Date/Time:   Tuesdays, December 13th, and Wednesday

December 14th 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. 

Fall Risk Assessments:  Monday, December 12th by scheduled appointment
